These shoes, named “Campaign”, are important to me. Relating to folk art or objects that are not consciously designed and are somehow naive.
Compton Verney Quilt
Inspiration
My inspiration for these shoes was a quilt in the Folk Art collection at Compton Verney. The quilt was sewn from pieces of soldier’s wool uniforms.
My interest was in bringing together the affinity between earthy warm materials, vegetable tanned leather for the body along with wool in the needlepoint embroidery on the heel covers.
