Oeuvre

The Oeuvre is an evolving archive of Caroline Groves commissions: shoes, boots and related objects made for private clients, exhibitions and special projects. Each piece records a meeting of silhouette, material, technique and story. Some are quietly restrained, others richly narrative, but all share the same commitment to proportion, hand construction and personal meaning.

Close up on a vintage button on this wonderful button shoe in vibrant magenta polished calf leather. With 3 Button fastenings on each foot, the main detail of this pair is upon its heel. The block heel showcase a fine work of silk embroidery, depicting an exotic bird in flight. The bright rich colours of the silk embroidery make this an exception piece of art. The shoe has a hand sewn welt and hand stitched oak bark tanned sole.

Block Heeled Button Shoe - Caroline Groves

Here you can see a photograph of an exquisite pair of Caroline Groves creations. On black suede base, a careful and highly detailed lobster design has been embroidered onto the toes. One foot being in the oranges, pinks and reds of a cooked lobster and the other being in blues and cooler tones. Swarovski embellished buckles feature on the ankle straps and eyelets below allow for some lacing up on this shoe for extra comfort. You can see small bead work and fine pink grosgrain beading along edges.

The back view of this deep blue book calf leather boot. Seeing the carefully positioned 22t gold hand tooling running up the back of the heel to a detail filled finale at its top. Also within viewing range is the beginning of yet more of this intricate tooling beginning to descend up the leg panel. The imagery is inspired by temptation in the garden of Eden. This Oxford boot is long leg with laces running up all the way. This is a hand welted and hand stitched construction.

A close up edge of the Smerrel bag, revealing that this bag is infact a two sided bag, at glance equal to one another all but in colour. The natural tan colour veg tanned side has minimal detail, of a simple metal clasp and self colour hand stitches. However a closer look at the black veg tan alternative side reveals an abundance of detailing. with an ornate embossing floral detail on its main body and following the curve of its flap. Perfectly executed hand stitching follows the edges of the leather. A highly detailed solid silver clasp, craftsman made, sits as center piece on this elaborate side of the Smerrel design. The clasp depicting magical bird details, florals and shell- like shapes.
